6 Days / 5 Nights Bhutan Cultural Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival Paro (2250m) – Thimphu (2350m)
Arrive in Paro by Bhutan’s national carrier and enjoy a scenic Himalayan flight with views of some of the world’s highest mountains. As you step off the plane, the cool and fresh mountain air warmly welcomes you to Bhutan. After clearing visa and customs formalities, you will be greeted by your tour representative and transferred for lunch. Later visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The dzong still serves as the administrative and monastic center of the district. The southern entrance features the traditional cantilever bridge called Nemi Zam. After sightseeing, drive about one hour to Thimphu.

Day 2 – Thimphu – Punakha (1310m)
After breakfast visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Continue sightseeing in Thimphu with visits to:
  • Institute of Traditional Medicine
  • Folk Heritage Museum
  • Textile Museum
Later drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3050m). The road climbs through pine and cedar forests draped with hanging lichens. On clear days the pass offers magnificent views of the Himalayan mountain range. After a short stop for tea, descend along winding mountain roads into the fertile Punakha valley.

Day 3 – Punakha – Thimphu
After breakfast visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. This dzong served as the ancient capital of Bhutan and is still the winter residence of the central monastic body. Later drive to Lobeysa for lunch and take a short hike through rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility. Built in 1499, it is associated with the famous Bhutanese saint Drukpa Kuenley, known as the Divine Madman. After the visit, drive back to Thimphu.

Day 4 – Thimphu – Haa Valley – Paro
After breakfast drive over Chelela Pass (3899m), the highest motorable pass in Bhutan offering spectacular views of the Himalayan mountains. Continue towards the scenic Haa Valley, a remote region that remained closed to tourists until 2002. Visit:
  • Wangchucklo Dzong
  • Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple)
  • Lhakhang Nakpo (Black Temple)
After exploring the valley, drive to Paro.

Day 5 – Paro – Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike
After breakfast drive to the base of Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Begin the hike up the mountain trail to one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. The hike takes about two hours to reach the cafeteria viewpoint which offers breathtaking views of the monastery clinging dramatically to a cliff. According to legend, Guru Padmasambhava flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. After visiting the monastery, descend and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples.

Day 6 – Departure from Paro
After breakfast transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Bid farewell to the mystical Himalayan kingdom as you depart with unforgettable memories.
